A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays present a plethora of pastimes much better than catching up on the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and using meditation skills to not arguing with family members. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy announcements came out during the holidays, and just in case you missed any, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt further production. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a hopeful indicator. Yet, the main art for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they must be trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it maintained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will very likely debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not yet been announced.
